Sorted, Resorted accompanies Gabriel Kuri’s major solo exhibition currently on view at WIELS Contemporary, his first institutional solo show in Brussels, where he has lived for the past sixteen years. Following the organising principle of the exhibition, the catalogue adopts material as its organising principle. Within his practice Kuri employs a diverse range of materials – from receipts and seashells to construction materials – combining the tradition of assemblage with surrealist montage to create witty and engaging sculptural forms. The publication features an introduction by senior curator Zoe Gray, an essay by art historian Cathleen Chaff, and four texts exploring our material world by Brian Dillon.
