"A-A’, B-B’", Simon Starling, 2022
Archivorum×M

This is a publication consisting of three parts that documents his 2019 and 2020 exhibition in The Modern Institute, Glasgow, and in the Galleria Franco Noero, Turin, respectively. The publication presents two seemingly unrelated objects: Fiat 125 Special, and Giambattista Tiepolo’s painting The Finding of Moses (1785). A first glance over the pages reveals the only shared feature to be the cuts: Fiat is divided into three parts, and Tiepolo’s painting is separated into numerous fragments. Developing transformation as one of the most prominent subjects in his oeuvre, the objects are bound by a method of disintegration, historical coincidences, and Starling’s unique artistic logic.
