Costa Vece’s publication “Dark Days” is a multi-layered artist's book that is conceived as an independent work. Three texts on different aspects of the work complete the picture volume. The publication is published on the occasion of Vece’s solo exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Solothurn.
“Dark Days” brings together parts of the private picture archive of Costa Vece. The collection of photos, images from newspapers, magazines and the Internet, reproductions of historical and contemporary works of art, and much more allows an insight into the visual cosmos that shapes Vece’s work. The working materials from this private collection of the artist’s work, which was created during his extensive research on his artistic work, have been arranged into a series of forty double-page plates for this publication. Scattered between the found visual material are also documentary photographs of artistic works and the reference illustrations to the texts. The composition of the individual images makes thematic overlaps of Costa Vece’s thought and work visible.
The collection illustrates the artist's subjective view of contemporary images and themes and at the same time bears witness to his view of the world. The consistently conceived and designed artist's book “Dark Days” presents numerous materials on Vece’s oeuvre in images and text and provides a surprising insight into a complex work.
