This catalog accompanies Red, Green, Blue, Loom Music, Simon Starling's fifth solo show at the Franco Noero Gallery, and the first exhibition conceived for the spaces in via Mottalciata.
The new exhibition project moves once again from the artist's deep interest in the very rich historical tradition of manufacturing, industry, and design that characterizes Turin. This time it all started with a visit to the Antica Fabbrica Passamanerie Massia Vittorio 1843, a family-run company based in nearby Pianezza, in a bright early 1900s building that was once a Bakelite factory. The company produces high-quality fabrics, chevrons, and cords using looms that date back to 1780. Many of the looms are still automated and use punch cards, the revolutionary technology developed by Joseph-Marie Jacquard at the end of the 1700s.
