Dara Friedman (Bad Kreuznach, 1968), lives and works in Miami and Bad Kreuznach.

Friedman uses everyday sights and sounds as the raw material for film and video artworks that reverberate with emotional energy. A former student of the famously rigorous Austrian filmmaker Peter Kubelka, Friedman engages tendencies in 20th-century experimental cinema that call for a radical reduction of the medium to its most essential material properties. In place of linear storylines, her films typically portray straightforward gestures and situations that unfold according to predetermined rules and guidelines.

Her work has been shown in solo exhibition in international public and private Institutions, including: Aspen Art Museum, Aspen, USA (2017), Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, USA (2014); Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Detroit, USA (2014); Center for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw, Polond (2013); Miami Art Museum, Miami, USA (2012); Contemporary Art Museum, Raleigh, North Carolina, USA (2012); Public Art Fund, New York, USA (2007); The Kitchen, New York, USA (2005); Kunstmuseum Thun, Switzerland (2002); and SITE Santa Fe, Santa Fe, USA (2001). She has also taken part in many group exhibitions in Institutions such as: Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington DC, USA (2013); MoMA PS 1, Long Island City, New York, USA (2010); Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, USA (2009 e 2002); Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, Frankfurt, Germany (2009); and New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, USA (2002). Her work has included many institutional collections, as the Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, USA; Pérez Art Museum Miami, Miami, USA; Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zurich, Switzerland; Institute for Contemporary Art, Miami, USA; and Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, USA. In 2000 she was awarded the Rome Prize.
