Paulo Nazareth (Governador Valadares, Brazil, 1977) lives and works in Brazil and in the rest of the world.

Life and art often coincide in the work of Paulo Nazareth. Using the language of art and through participation and the choice and representation of objects, the artist works on issues that explore the relationship between people and the many different contexts they live in. In many cases he investigates the concepts of ethnicity and ideology, in a profound analysis of the imbalances in the world that surrounds us both socially and ethically. A key element in the life of this young Brazilian artist is the act of walking and indeed he ventures off on long journeys across continents. One of these was in 2011, when a nine-month trip took him from Minais Geras, his hometown in Brazil, to Miami, Florida, on the occasion of the Art Basel exhibition in Miami Beach. As though in a never-ending performance, the artist sublimates the journey and returns it through his works, in photographs, drawings and installations that appear as chronicles and diaries, and catalogues of images.

His work has been shown in solo exhibition in international public and private Institutions, including: ICA - Institute for Contemporary Art, Miami, USA (2019); Museu de Arte da Pampulha, Belo Horizonte, Brazil (2018); ICA - Institute for Contemporary Arts, London, UK (2014); MASP - Museu de Arte de São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil (2013).

Ha partecipato a numerose mostre collettive in istituzionali internazionali, tra le quali: Centre Pompidou, Paris, France (2020); KADIST, Paris, France (2019); MMK - Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt am Main, Germany (2018); Museu de Lisboa, Lisboa, Portugal (2017); Musée d’art contemporain de Lyon, Lyon, France (2014); New Museum, New York, USA (2013), among many others.

His work has been shown in biennials and international group exhibitions such as: 34th São Paulo Biennial, São Paulo, Brazil (2020); 22nd Sydney Biennial, Sydney, Australia (2020); Prospect.4 Triennial, New Orleans, USA (2017); 22th Curitiba Internacional Biennial, Curitiba, Brazil (2015); 12th Biennale de Lyon, Lyon, France (2014); 55th Biennale di Venezia, Venice, Italy (2013).
