For his first solo show in Italy at Galleria Franco Noero, Arturo Herrera questions the capability to record the idea of abstraction through fragmentation.

Arturo Herrera employs a wide variety of elements by the appropriation of the Art of the '50s, '60s, and '80s and popular culture to create a multilayered body of work featuring juxtapositions and associations of deconstructed images. His work is made of collages, photographs, sculptures, works on paper and wall paintings. The artist often uses a fragmented language by mixing cartoon imagery with different elements to allow the interpretation of the visitors who, on decrypting the codes of the original source, will investigate on contents and forms. The resulting works hang in balance between implicit and explicit, related to the potentiality of the viewer’s unconscious intuition.

For this exhibition at Galleria Franco Noero, Arturo Herrera will present three pieces: a series of 80 photos, a work on paper and a wall paintings installation, specially conceived for the space of Via Mazzini. The photographs, created through his own drawings and collages, deal with the impurity of abstraction. They are a site-specific commission for the gallery. On the occasion of the show, the catalogue "Arturo Herrera Photographs" has been published in cooperation with Brent Sikkema New York, is available at the gallery.
