Henrik Håkansson (Helsingborg, 1968) lives and works in Falkenberg and Berlin.
Henrik Håkansson observes the natural environment and attempts to constantly reduce the distance between nature and Man, stimulating the viewer to look more attentively at the processes and conditions that govern the natural world. Håkansson employs illusionistic devices in his work which sometimes give the spectator the impression of magnifying the surrounding space. The perception of the human scale is thus altered and reduced to the dimensions of the smaller natural world, so that it is easier to observe and perceive the ‘wonders of nature’, and a hidden, forgotten side of beauty. On the other hand, he adopts the most technological means to perform his investigations: video cameras, closed circuit television, microphones, lighting systems, amplifiers and microscopes to augment sight, sound and perception and even to recreate phenomena that would otherwise go unnoticed.
His work has been shown in solo exhibitions in international public and private Institutions, including: KODE, Bergen, Norway (2019); Fondazione Morra Greco, Naples, Italy; Kunstverein Freiburg, Freiburg, Germany (2016); Swedish Institute, Paris, France (2015); Lunds Konsthall, Lund, Sweden (2012); MIMA - Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art , Middlesbrough, UK (2009); Museo Rufino Tamayo, Mexico City, Mexico (2008); CAG - Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver, Canada (2007); Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France (2006); The Dunker Culture Centre, Helsinborg, Sweden (2004); Moderna Museet c/o Riddarhuset, Stockholm, Sweden (2003); Secession, Wien, Austria (2002); Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, Germany (2001); Kunsthalle Basel, Basel, Switzerland (1999); Museum Tre Kronor, Stockholm, Sweden (1995); Olle Olsson Museum, Stockholm, Sweden (1993).
