Jim Lambie (Glasgow, 1964) lives and work in Glasgow.
Jim Lambie works are based on musical and popular culture and are characterized by the use of found objects. He then interacts with the space through the use of masking tape, doors, mirrors, records cover, glitters, and pins. Lambie realizes objets directly linked to the world of art and design and he has the gift to tease elegance from mess: thrift - store scraps, junk- shop kitsch, nails, bits of old stick, metres of black vinyl tape, bulging lumps, coat hook. In Lambieʼs hands, this strictly B-grade stuff is transformed into powerful and enigmatic objects, strange and compelling environments.
His work has been shown in solo exhibitions in international public and private Institutions, including: Museum of Art and Photography, Bangalore, India (2024), Centraal Museum, Utrecht, The Netherlands (2019); Pacific Palace, Hong Kong (2018); Glasgow International, Project Ability gallery, Trangate 103, Glasgow, UK (2016); Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh, UK (2014); Goss-Michael Foundation, Dallas USA (2011); Jupiter Artland, Edinburgh, UK (2010); Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, Japan (2008); Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, USA (2008); Hirschhorn Museum and Smithsonian Museum, Washington, USA (2006); Tate Britain, London, UK (2005) among others.
